Women Are Kickin’ It in Construction

Throughout the month of March, women with a passion for the crane, rigging and specialized transport industry were acknowledged, celebrated and recognized for their long careers, hard work, dedication and many other contributions to the industry. Females make up less than 10.5% of the overall construction workforce. Amy Marten, Regional Business Manager, Potain Tower Cranes was recently interviewed in American Cranes and Transport Magazine. “I was exploring all kinds of industries trying to find my passion, until I found my home at Manitowoc,” she said, “Essentially, I got hooked.” She asserts the people are what drives her and fuels her respect for the industry professionals who share her passion. Ensuring their satisfaction is what continues to engage her and motivates her to pursue personal growth. She is currently pursuing an MBA. Crane Hotline featured an interview with Jonelle Anderson, Marketing Director at NessCampbell Crane + Rigging , where she shared her insights on the industry, recruiting, and safety. “We need to do a better job of showing young people the different kinds of companies…and all the different skills that are needed. The crane company alone might have seven different roles – truck driver, riggers, an oiler, signal person and the crane operator, plus lift director, and administrators.” Jonelle was the force behind the social #HookandHaul lip sync contest to raise awareness for workforce development.
