5/18/17SC&R FOUNDATION AWARDS OVER $23,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS; $20,000 REMAINS TO BE AWARDED

(Centerville, VA - May 18, 2017) - The SC&R Foundation has announced the winners of its grant and scholarship programs for the 2017-2018 school year. Seven students preparing for careers related to the crane, rigging, and specialized transportation industry were awarded a cumulative total of $18,000 for the coming 2017-2018 school year. The Foundation also provided a total of $5,000 to four individuals that are furthering their careers in the industry by participating in continuing education courses or a vocational/technical college program. $20,000 remains to be awarded in the next four grant rounds.

Since 1986, the SC&R Foundation has awarded over $518,000 in scholarship and grant awards to SC&RA member company employees and their children and grandchildren. Information on the scholarship and grant award winners is provided below.

Listed in alphabetical order, this year’s SC&R Foundation scholarship recipients are as follows:

Jacob Bussiere will be a sophomore at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine pursuing a B.S. Jacob hopes to become a Coast Guard Licensed Engineer and enter the maritime shipping industry after graduation. Jacob was awarded the George Bragg Memorial Scholarship.

Braxton Chong plans to use his award as he continues to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Hawaii, in Hilo, Hawaii. Braxton already works in the industry at Hawaiian Crane & Rigging, and with his degree he hopes to pursue his interests in the engineering and design of the wire rope drums being used in modern saltwater reels. Braxton is the recipient of the Christopher Lorenz Memorial Scholarship.

Chloe Lonergan hopes to follow in her father and grandfather’s footsteps by securing a position at the family business, Empire Crane Company. Chloe will use her scholarship to assist her self-funded pursuit of a degree in business administration at SUNY Oswego in Oswego, New York.

Brandon Robinson is a technical parts specialists with Link-Belt Construction Equipment. Brandon’s scholarship will help him fund his M.B.A from Midway University in Midway, Kentucky. He hopes a higher education degree will aide him as he continues his career with Link-Belt.

Lacey Rucker is pursuing a B.S. in business administration at the University of Mississippi which she hopes she can use to pursue a marketing career in the crane, rigging, and specialized transportation industry. Lacey’s father is James Rucker of WireCo WorldGroup. Lacey is the recipient of the Terex Continuing Education Scholarship.

Kylie Starliper will use her scholarship as she finishes her Bachelor’s Degree at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, while at the same time beginning coursework pursuing a graduate degree in applied statistics. Kylie is interested in using her education in the vital behind-the-scenes work that helps make the transportation industry more efficient, safe, and profitable. Kylie is the daughter of Greg Starliper of Keen Transport.

Brian Winburn works as a full-time associate quality engineer at Link-Belt Construction Equipment. Brian will use his scholarship to help fund a B.S. in management from Indian Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. Brian is the recipient of the NBIS Continuing Education Scholarship.

In alphabetical order, this year’s SC&R Foundation grant recipients include:

Jakob Green works in customer service as well as fork lift operations with Farmers Exchange. Jakob is working on an associate degree in power equipment at Ohio State ATI. He is the recipient of the Anderson Trucking Service Continuing Education Grant.

Fay Pietrobone is the fleet manager and safety coordinator at IB Dickinson & Sons, where she has been employed for eight years. Fay has received the McTyre Family Continuing Education Grant which she will use to pursue an associate degree in occupational safety and health.

Jeremiah Rindler, is employed by Lift Systems of Davenport, Iowa, as an industrial drafter. Jeremiah is the recipient of the Heartland communications/Crane Hotline Continuing Education Grant which he will use to pursue a pre-engineering associate degree from Scott Community College, with the hopes of later earning a B.A. in engineering from Western Illinois University.

Jeffrey Sims of Sunnyside Construction is taking training in heavy equipment operating from Associated Training Services with the purpose of developing skills for life long career in the industry. Jeffrey is the recipient of the Robert Cookingham Memorial Grant.
